The evidence boundary

The reviewed research does not establish that a permanent sculpture will reduce medication, shorten stays or generate a financial return. A trial of room paintings improved perceptions of the environment without detecting clinical or psychological differences. PAH-016

Decisions at the outset

Define the purpose and the people who will encounter the work.
Review the artwork in its proposed setting and lighting.
Include patient, staff and accessibility perspectives.

Agree ownership, installation and long-term care.
Include the full project cost, even for a donation.
Plan evaluation appropriate to the stated purpose.
